All seven members of the refugee family of Slavica and Voin Radovanić from Kosovo gained civil documents necessary for application for the status of foreigner through the project led by UNHCR aimed at providing assistance to refugees in acquiring necessary documents through their partner NGO ”Legal Centre”.

UNHCR HOUSING PROJECT BRINGS HOPE TO REFUGEES IN MONTENEGRO
A glimmer of hope was clearly seen in the eyes of Djergić Konstadin as the construction material for his future home was unloaded from the truck. His five members family, living in Danilovgrad, is the first one to receive aid within the programme of housing construction assistance to Displaced and Internally Displaced Persons in Montenegro.

INCLUSION OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITY - PRIMARY SCHOOL 'SAVO ILIC' IN KOTOR
A survey conducted in August 2010 as well as UNICEF’s on the ground experience have revealed considerable social distance towards children with disabilities. Only one third of citizens would accept that a child with disability goes to the same class as their child. However, there are also stories that provide inspiration, such as the one of the 6th grader Jelena Todorovic.

REMOVING A TOXIC THREAT TO TOURISM PROMOTION
UNDP Montenegro’s demilitarization programme successfully formulated and executed a plan to dispose of hazardous toxic materials left on the shores of the country’s spectacular Bay of Kotor by the former Navy of Serbia and Montenegro. The 128 tons of deteriorating rocket fuel constituted a potential threat to the country’s important and growing tourism industry.

BRINGING ROMA IN FROM THE COLD IN MONTENEGRO
After centuries of being excluded from the larger societies they live amongst, Roma are starting to knock at the door and ask for entry. Few will be surprised to learn that Roma are the most marginalized ethnic minority in Montenegro. Plagued by endemic, age-old social ostracization, poverty and illiteracy, improving the plight of Roma is one of the toughest challenges faced by the tiny Balkan country that is trying to deal with scores of tough challenges.

Exposure to other societies emboldens people to dare to question the wisdom and validity of widely accepted taboos within their own societies. The countries of the Western Balkans began the 21st century with many problems. Social, political and economic structures within the countries were seriously affected by the conflicts and economic sanctions that dominated the region in the 1990s. National governments struggled to find common ground. Post conflict reconstruction projects were undertaken across the region. Governments began to reform their institutional infrastructures to embrace democratic and market economy models.

PARTICIPATORY DEVELOPMENT FOR FARMERS IN MONTENEGRO AND KOSOVO
Montenegro is a young country in the Western Balkans and thanks to the tourism industry it has a fast growing economy. However, the country’s economic growth has not benefited the northern region as much as other parts of the country. The northern parts of the country is home to 31.5% of the population, however, the region provides only 18% of the country’s GDP.
